Do I need to remove my regular SIM before setting up the eSIM?
Last updated October 14, 2026
No. Your regular SIM stays in place. The eSIM is added alongside it, and your phone manages both at once.
Your physical home SIM stays in your phone and the eSIM operates as a second line. Once both are set up: your home number stays active, your phone uses the eSIM for mobile data, and apps tied to your home number keep working.
Could I remove my home SIM during the trip?
You could, but most people don't. Leaving it in means you still receive calls, texts, and 2FA codes on your home number and have a fallback if the eSIM has an issue. Default recommendation: leave your home SIM in, just switch your data line to the eSIM.
